What is Static Contraction Training?

Static contraction training has been one of the biggest and best kept secrets in the bodybuilding community for many years. It’s popularity and success is slowly becoming apparent as more and more people are making big steps in their weight training using static contraction training.

Static contraction training, involves the use of much heavier weights than with other weight training methods, as it requires you to perform a static hold in your strongest range of motion. It is because of this you are able to lift up to 100% or more than for a full range lift. It seems obvious when you think about it, why lift a weight that is only suitable for your weakest range of motion? Doing this means that you are not exerting your muscles to anywhere near their full capacity.

At first glance static contraction training is a method that would appear to be suitable only for body builders and weight lifting professionals but the great thing is, anyone can do it. Men and women, regardless of age and weight training experience can have great success with static contraction training. Lifting weights in your strongest range of motion means you are far less likely to gain injury.

Static Contraction Training – Higher Intensity

When it comes to exercise, intensity is directly proportional to time. In essence, the more effort exerted, the less time you are physically able to maintain it. This principle is the key to static contraction training. Static contraction training is all about high intensity, lifting the maximum amount of weight for the minimum amount of time. When you really think about it, it makes perfect sense.  Have you ever seen a big, muscular marathon runner? Or even a small, skinny power lifter?
The goal of weight training is to build muscle and strength, the only way to do this is to exert more force upon your muscles than they are used to. Static contraction training allows you to lift much heavier weights than with conventional weight training methods. Lifting heavier weights, means your muscles work harder and therefore more new muscle is built by your body.


Ok, I’m going to be honest I’m not a body builder, nor am I a personal trainer. I’m certainly not an expert on static contraction training but one thing I do know is that static contraction training works. It works because it is simple and based upon science, fact and common sense.

Now, theren't many static contraction programmes out there but of the few, this is certainly the best. I was first introduced to static contraction training by a man called Pete Sisco. He is renowned for being one of the leading experts on static contraction training. He has worked with countless people, including professional bodybuilders, using his tried and tested programme.
